Fishing/Conditions Report

Lake John/Delaney Buttes/Cowdrey

Thursday, June 25, 2020

More pictures to share and a quick lake update! The weather has been nice over the past week with a few afternoon showers.

Lake John has quality fish coming out right now but the bite is still slow. The water temperature is warming up slowly, it is at about 57 degrees. Pictures are coming in from both shore and boat fisherman equally. Boats using rapala’s, tub jigs, kastmasters, thomas bouyants and ruby eyed leech flies under an indicator. Shore fisherman using marshmallows, cheese, garlic, red, pink and green powerbaits, night crawlers and black leech flies.

The Delaney’s are fishing great. The water temperature is warming up slowly, it is at about 62 degrees. East producing smaller 12-13” fish but the most active, South producing 16-20” fish and North producing the larger measurements but slower than the other two. Rapala’s, tub jigs, leeches, chironomids, damsels, scuds, and nymphs 10-20 feet under an indicator has been best during the day, stripping crayfish and leeches has been successful at night and twilight hours.

Cowdrey: stocked on May 12 with ten-inch catchables so there are fish back in the lake if it did winter kill last season. Fishing reports have been slow from this lake.

Big Creek: was supposed to open for camping Starting June 1st, we do not have confirmation yet if this has happened. The lake is open water and fishing very well lately.

Lake John, Delaney Buttes and Cowdrey are all State Wildlife Areas managed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, at this time they ARE open for camping by the lakes in the free first come first serve areas. These lakes are open to day fishing and boating as well.

Don’t forget that we started offering boat rentals! Be sure to stop by our store and we can help you out with what’s fishing well and point you in the right direction. We also have cabins, a suite and a campground with full hook-ups available if you are wanting to stay out at the lake! Please visit our website at lakejohnresort.com for more information.
